Seungean Cha's work seems to be a painting work on canvas at first glance. However, with a closer look into it, one can discover that her works are entirely consisted of textiles. After graduating from Hongik University with a degree in textile art and the Art Institute of Chicago with MFA in painting and drawing, she has continuously explored the conditions of paintings through producing textile art on her woven canvases. The artist's current interest is to look back into the past legacy of the passionately experimental 20th century art scene, and to interweave various elements of art from the period across a border between East and West, eyesight and touch, and mind and material. Seungean Cha was born in 1974, South Korea and currently works and lives in Seoul....
