Cai Jin

Cai Jin is known for her lush oil paintings. After finishing her studies in 1986 at the Fine Arts Department of An Hui Teachers University in Wu Hu, Cai taught for a brief time at a high school before resuming her studies at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing. Graduating from the Advanced Oil Painting Programme in 1991, Cai now divides her time as a practicing artist and as a professor at the Tianjin Fine Arts Institute in Tianjin.

Cai has gained considerable recognition for her work, especially for her “Beauty Banana Series” (“Mei Ren Jiao”) —a series of lush, darkly hued oil paintings of decomposing banana plants.
