STATEMENT

With a focus on the figure, my paintings combine representational elements with the abstract qualities of color, shape, and decorative pattern. They develop as a culmination of memory, reference, and experience, evoking moments that are familiar yet strange. Art historical references including Gericault, Fra Angelico, Matisse, Art Deco design, and Pompeiian frescoes serve as inspiration along with echoes from daily life. Shapes become people, spaces flatten and expand, and time is suspended.
