Hanwon Museum of Art was founded in December, 1993, by the honorary chairman of Hanwon Group, Donghwan Ha, who is also the founder of Dongah Motor Company (SsangYoung Motor Company) in South Korea. Ha established the museum for the development of Korean art, the enhancement of cultural enjoyment, and the art education for the mass public. Its acquisitions include artworks of celebrated Korean modern artists (particularly from the 19th and 20th centuries) such as Jang Seung-eop, Kim Kyujin, Noh Soohyun, Lee Sangbeom, Byun Kwansik, Kim Eunho, Nam Kwan, Park Seobo. The museum also has artworks of various Korean artists, who represent the history of the Korean contemporary art. Based on its founder’s philosophy, the museum has supported numerous artists and held art exhibitions over 20 years, especially of representational paintings (landscape), traditional Korean arts, and media arts, to contribute to the balanced development of the Korean art.
